design proposal – Gehl Architects, Puerto Varas + Puerto Montt, Chile, 2016
This design proposal is quite interesting because of the method that Gehl Architects applied. They studied people behavior in public spaces and then they designed a new proposal which started with a pilot project that could be implemented in the future.
With the analysis they found many problems such as: too many areas are occupied by cars and people have less than the half entire space to walk, there a very few safe paths for pedestrian, green areas are underused and so on.
The intervention wants to design a new kind of public space, dedicated to people not to cars, it wants to encourage public transportation, market spaces, social interaction spaces and safer pedestrian paths.
